ALISON ANTES, PhD, is an Associate Professor of Medicine of the Bioethics Research Center in the Division of General Medical Sciences at Washington University School of Medicine. Dr. Antes completed her PhD in Industrial-Organizational Psychology at the University of Oklahoma, where she focused on leadership, ethical decision-making, and the development and evaluation of research ethics training.

Dr. Antes is co-director of the Professionalism and Integrity in Research Program (PI Program) and the Responsible Conduct of Research Course for Washington University ICTS Scholars. Dr. Antes also teaches a master’s course in ethics and professionalism for data scientists and statisticians. Dr. Antes is an editorial board member of Accountability in Research.

Dr. Antes conducts empirical research on research ethics and ethical and social issues in healthcare. Dr. Antes is particularly interested in the decision-making of researchers and the leadership and management behaviors of principal investigators. Dr. Antes is also interested in the ethical and social issues arising from advances in healthcare technologies, particularly technologies driven by advances in data science and artificial intelligence.

Fostering Integrity and Societal Impact in Genomics through Management and Leadership Practices
This project will examine the management and leadership practices of principal investigators that foster excellence and integrity in research. The research will also explore the leadership training and development needs and preferences of early-career researchers. This project will also provide the applicant with career training and mentorship.

Education Program to Improve Innovation and Entrepreneurial Thinking in Biomedical Researchers
This project addresses the need to broaden the training of our biomedical research workforce to keep up with the demands and opportunities of contemporary science. The proposed program will provide biomedical researchers with an additional skill set in innovative and entrepreneurial thinking that will enable them to speed the translation of promising new ideas into innovative products to improve health.
